Assignment

I had the task to explore various design thinking methods and choose one to create an informative poster. The poster had to be in Estonian because it was intended to be displayed on the classroom wall to help students learn Estonian terms, which are generally known more in English.

Design process

I researched different design thinking methods and chose "The Double Diamond model" for my poster.

Next, I started gathering information from various sources about the Double Diamond method to find the golden mean for dividing the design stages into different thematic sections.

When that was done, I began thinking about the design of the poster. I felt it should convey movement yet remain simple and easily readable. Once I had the initial layout in place, I started experimenting with different fonts. I tried many, but settled on Jura for body text due to its good readability even at smaller sizes, and for accents and headings, I chose Rubik Bubbles for its dynamism and eye-catching appeal.

As for colors, I liked the balance between lighter shades of orange (#FFB865) and purple (#CD97E6). These colors are visually contrasting enough to catch the eye, while effectively conveying the change and movement between different stages of the Double Diamond method.

My takeaway

I learned how to adjust my poster for printing because after the initial print on A3 paper, some texts were too small, and thematic figures too delicate. This provided valuable input for future work, especially when designing something intended for printing on a regular office printer.
